DESCRIPTION:
POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE supplied in powder or granular type
(KOH) and prepared by electrolysis of POTASSIUM CHLORIDE.
APPLICATION:
CAUSTIC POTASH is the most common name for POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE
(KOH). It is sometimes used for pH stability and as an inhibitor
for swelling shales.
RECOMMENDED TREATMENT:
1. For pH control ¼ ppb = approx. pH 9.0
For pH control ½ ppb = approx.
pH 10.0
For pH control 1 ppb = approx. pH 12.0
2. For inhibition: Maintain 500 ppm K.
PACKAGING:
CAUSTIC POTASH is packaged in 25-kg polyethylene bags
or in 25-kg poly drums.
HAZARD:
CAUSTIC POTASH is a strong alkaline. Caution should be
taken when handling as it causes severe burns if allowed to get
on the skin especially if it is wet. Skin burns should be washed
immediately and thoroughly flushed with water for approximately
15 minutes. The application of a burn ointment is helpful to ease
the pain. Washing with water for 15 minutes is recommended for eye
burns as a first-aid treatment; if the burn is severe a physician
should be consulted immediately.
