DESCRIPTION:
LIME is fine white powder with a SG of 2.34. Calcium hydroxide
(96.5% Ca(OH)2, 3.5% impurities).
APPLICATION:
LIME is used to increase pH and to treat out bicarbonate
contamination in water base muds, it is also used to activate the
fatty acid based emulsifier in invert mud. Excess LIME in Oil Base
Mud systems will provide protection against contamination from acidic
gas such as carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulfide.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
Chemical reactions for remaining carbonate and bicarbonate
are as follows:
Ca (OH)2 + CO3
Ca →
CO3 + 2 OH-
Ca (OH)2 + HCO3 Ca →
CO3 + H2O
+ 2 OH-
For each EPM of HCO3 to be removed, you should add
0.026% ppb lime. The LIME must be added slowly over several circulation?s
to avoid undesirable viscosity increase.
LIME is used to introduce calcium in mud system where calcium ion
substitutes sodium between the bentonite platelets. The level of
calcium ions in solution is controlled by addition of caustic soda.
The initial break over treatment requires between 2 - 8 ppb Lime.
(Refer to Gypsum procedures). In case of Gypsum and LIME muds it
is essential to select the suitable Polymer or thinner to be used,
and during break-over the minimum possible Bentonite content in
the mud is very important.
PACKAGING:
LIME is packaged in 25 kg multi wallpaper bags.
HAZARD:
Precautions should be taken while handling the materials.
