DESCRIPTION:
SODIUM BICARBONATE is white powder, which has a pH of
8.5. The common name of SODIUM BICARBONATE is baking soda.
APPLICATION:
SODIUM BICARBONATE is used principally when drilling cement.
It precipitates the calcium ion from cement Ca (OH)2 or anhydrite
Ca So4 in muds above 8.5 pH.
Ca (OH)2 + Na HCO3 →
Ca CO3 + Na OH + H2O
(pH) ↑
Ca So4 + 2NaHCO3- →
CaCO3 + Na2So4+H2
(pH) ↓
Avoid over treating the mud system with SODIUM BICARBONATE as high
gel strength will result from excess of carbonate (1.0 lb of bicarbonate
will react with 1.1 lb of cement).
PACKAGING:
SODIUM BICARBONATE is packaged in 50 kg polyethylene bags.
HAZARDS:
Precaution should be taken while handling
