DESCRIPTION:
SODA ASH is white powder, which has a pH above 10.5. The
common name of SODA ASH is sodium carbonate (Na2
CO3).
APPLICATION:
SODA ASH is used to precipitate soluble calcium in water
based muds especially calcium sulfate Ca SO4
(Anhydrite) in low pH muds.
Ca SO4 +
Na2 CO3 →
Ca CO3 + Na2
SO4
SODA ASH also can be used to treat cement contamination in the
mud. However since SODA ASH has high pH in addition to caustic soda
formed when treating cement, a high pH will result (In case of CMT
cont. sodium bicarbonate will give better results due to its low
pH, but in case of drilling anhydrite SODA ASH due to its high pH
will neutralize the S04 ions and maintain suitable pH.
Ca(OH)2
+ Na2 CO3 →
Ca CO3 + 2Na OH
Use as required to remove calcium ions, Caution should be taken
not to over treat with SODA ASH since gel strengths will result
from excess carbonate. Use as required to remove Calcium Ions.
PACKAGING:
SODA ASH is packaged in 50 kg multi wallpaper bags.
HAZARD:
SODA ASH is extremely irritating to any body tissue when
it comes in contact. Highly toxic if ingested, precaution should
be taken while handling.
